ONE ANOTHER (In Production)

Director

One Another is a kaleidoscopic look at friendship, one of the most ubiquitous and under-examined types of relationships we cultivate. Through three intimate stories, we step into the experiences of people grappling with the role of friendship in their lives. In this way, One Another unfolds as a timely investigation of how we can create healthier and more adaptable social networks.

The film weaves together a collection of stories—a woman recalls communal resource sharing between a group of single mothers in the 80s. Another processes changes in her mental health and its effect on a childhood friendship. A pair of friends try to evolve their friendship that has been foundational to their queer identities to handle now living an ocean apart. Together, these stories build on a common inkling that the pandemic has brought into sharp relief: marriage and the family unit are frequently not sufficient support alone. What could friendship, as a flexible, malleable category, offer in support of more sustainable communities?

Over the course of this film, it becomes clear that implicated in friendship are deeper feelings about identity, past traumas, happy memories, and lifelong desires. Our friendships can say a lot about who we are as people, what we value, how we communicate, and how the world sees us. It is time we pay more attention to them.
